This is only a tips and tricks section. There are no walkthroughs, nor are there locations of heartpieces, golden skulltulas, or big poes. If you want any of these things, buy the official booklet. I guarantee, it is better than any internet source. As for the big poes, there are no definite locations, you just have to explore every area carefully.
Finding the Sinking Lure
To find the sinking lure, you must first have caught a 16-pounder as an adult in the fishing game. Once that has happened, you should get a golden scale for your reward. Then, exit the pond and enter again. Pay your 20 rupees again, and search for the lure in 3 places:
1] The giant log in the middle of the pond.
2] The stream that flows into the main pond.
3] The lilypads area (I think there are two lilypad areas).
If you catch a record breaking fish, you won't get a reward since you used the illegal lure, and on the tank where they keep the record fish there will be a note saying that you used the sinking lure.
Duplicating Bottles
It is actually possible to turn another item into a bottle. Just follow these steps:
1] Equip an empty bottle to a C button (let's just say C-left)
2] Swing the bottle at a bottleable creature (let's say a fairy's spirit) by pressing C-left
3] Pause when the bottle is in mid-air
4] Equip another item to C-left (let's say the Deku Nuts)
Now, if you timed it right, your Deku Nuts should turn into a bottled fairy's spirit. This can work on any item. There is only one problem: you can't replace 'collected' items. For example, if I turned my Ocarina into a bottle, I can't pick up/buy another Ocarina, so I'm stuck. I believe that if you turn the Ocarina into a bottle, but then Sheik teaches you a song, I think you'll be able to use the Ocarina again, I'm not sure. If, however, you did turn your Deku Nuts into a bottle, you can use the bottle just like an ordinary bottle. If, however, you want your Deku Nuts back, simply pick up/buy some more Deku Nuts. Now, since adults can't use masks, if you turned your mask into a bottle, you can't use that bottle as an adult.
Tip for INSIDE JABU-JABU
Having trouble Inside Jabu-Jabu? Don't have the boomerang? Here's a tip: use Deku Nut's. Yes, it's true, these Deku Nut's finally have some use. If you use a Deku Nut on the octupus things or on bubbles, they'll be stunned or killed! It's simple, really.
Getting the Mask of Truth
For some reason, some people are having trouble selling the bunny hood. I really don't think it's all that hard, just follow these directions:
1] Enter Hyrule Castle (it's best if you're at dawn)
2] Exit into Hyrule Field
3] Head towards Gerudo Valley (west side)
You should find this guy who is running. Stay directly behind him until nighttime (or play Sun's Song) and he should sit down to rest. Talk to him and he'll talk about bunny rabbits for a little while. Now's the time where you put on the mask. If you talk to him, he'll pay you enough money to fill your wallet to it's maximum! On top of that, you can now get the Mask of Truth!
Trick the N64
This trick may mess up your game cartridge, but so far, I haven't had any bad reports. OK, in Kokiri Forest, Mido won't let you get to the Great Deku Tree unless you've equipped a sword and sheild. Also, another kid won't let you get to Hyrule Field until you've beaten the Great Deku Tree. How do you get passed? Simple. Trick the N64. Pull out the left side of the cartridge, and only the left side of your cartridge. You will now be able to freeze the rest of the game while still controlling Link. Pretty cool, eh? You can now enter the Great Deku Tree with no sword or sheild and you can enter Hyrule Field with only the Fairy Ocarina.
Cheat Dampé
Having trouble beating Dampé in under 1 minute to get the heart piece. I did, and this trick worked perfectly. When you are racing him, play a warp song (Minuet of the Forest, Bolero of Fire, Serenade of Water, Nocturne of Shadow, Requiem of Spirit, or Prelude of Light). A little window will pop up saying, "You can't warp here." Yes, you can't warp out, but, while that pop-up window is being displayed, the timer won't be running. So, in essence, you can actually beat Dampé in 0 seconds!!
Just a couple fun things, a few errors made in the game, some glitches, etc.
If you play a song for the Gossip Stones, out comes a fairy's spirit! If you play 'Song of Storms' for a Gossip Stone, out comes a big fairy! These big fairies are larger than the normal fairy. They glow a little more and they have a deeper colour of red. They also don't have any wings. So? What's so great, they just look bigger? Actually, they have a greater healing power. They will heal both life AND magic.
Play 'Zelda's Lullaby' in front of a slashed sign to fix it.
As a child, use the spin attack on one of the signs in Kokiri Forest. If you slash the right sign, it should fall off in one piece, into the water. You can actually jump onto the sign that's in the water and it should hold your weight.
As an adult, go to the fishing pond. Read the sign. On it is written the 3 rules of the fishing pond. Now, pay 20 rupees to use a fishing rod and a lure. It is actually possible to cast towards the counterman, steal his hat, then cast it into the water (or you can give it back). If you cast into the water, he'll make you pay a 50 rupee fine. Leave the fishing pond and come back. If you read the sign, it has a 4th rule: "Don't cast at people."
If you have the Mask of Truth, talk to the four Gossip Stones directly outside of the Temple of Time. One of them says that Gerudos sometimes come to Hyrule Castle to look for boyfriends. This has never happened to me. Another Gossip Stone says that Malon set the original record for the obstacle course in Lon Lon Ranch. Since you are a kid, Malon hasn't even made an obstacle course yet: you can't even ride a horse as a child.
